IN THE BEGINNING I DID NOT BELIEVE I COULD BE CURED
All starts are difficult, so was this one – to accept that you are addicted and to start treatment. In the beginning when I entered the program I didn’t believe I can be cured of my addiction to drugs. I won’t spend time over what and how long I had used. Rather, I will tell the story of my road to recovery, which was quite difficult, but successful.
With the help of the team from “Solidarnost” and from my family I was able to get back to real life. Here I am now, two years later, hiking, riding a bike, studying and exercising. And before I would not even think I can do any one of these. I am happy I got this far.
In the program I learned to be accountable for myself, as well as for others. I learned that there’s nothing wrong in asking for help, and it is much better than trying myself unsuccessfully and getting angry about it. I understood that people are being themselves when they are well adapted and doing what they really want.
One of the most important findings for me is that there is no drug worth taking to dull or alter my emotions. I love my life as it is, with its ups and downs. It is beautiful and adventurous.
I believe that the best relationships are made when people are being themselves and they are sincere and frank. I also believe that what makes us happy is not the drugs or the alcohol. On the contrary, it is the moments with people who are honest, sincere and close to us. Be human, be a good man!
