Who is eligible to participate in the program:
- Students in psychology, clinical psychology, clinical social work, social work;
- Professionals working in the helping professions.
What does the internship program entail:
- Career guidance;
- An opportunity for detailed study of the methods and models used in the rehabilitation of addicted people (alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling addiction);
- Hands-on, personal experience;
- Training in a professional environment with a team with many years of experience in the field of addictions.
What does the Program consist in:
The internship is divided into three stages, each having a specific purpose. Each stage lasts about a week.
The first stage is the study of literature. During this phase, the interns get acquainted with fundamental academic works in the field of addictions. They can discuss with their tutor any questions or ambiguities that they may have. They get familiar with the procedures and practices applied in the work with recovering addicts.
The second stage of the Program consists of practical experience. The interns take on the role of a clients and follow their daily routine for one week. During this week, the interns can participate in the groups and activities together with the clients. This stage allows for the accumulation of rich personal experience and a realistic sense of what constitutes being in a rehabilitation program, how everything they have read is put into practice, what emotions and problems can be encountered by anyone who has undertaken the initiative of joining a rehabilitation program. This experience allows for a better understanding of our clients, their emotions and some of the difficulties that they may encounter.
In the final, third stage, the interns play the role of the therapeutic team. They get to follow the routine of the rest of their colleagues in the team. They get to monitor the undergoing work and to assist the team. They may also discuss and actively participate in the process.
Upon completion of each stage, the interns write a report on their knowledge and experience, for which they receive professional feedback.
Length of the internship: 120 hours.
Cost of the internship: BGN 160.
Following the successful completion of the internship, a personal certificate for completion is issued.
